ContraSpa
Hot and Cold Spa

The only UK designed and built dual-purpose single-shell luxury hot and cold spa in the UK for contrast therapy.

A dual-purpose pool for contrast therapy

SpaFlo, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of stainless steel hot tubs and spas, has unveiled our latest Special Projects design, the ContraSpa Contrast Therapy Hot and Cold Spa.

The ContraSpa is a luxury dual-purpose stainless steel spa offering contrast bath therapy via two separate bodies of water built into a single self-contained unit.

The ContraSpa offers the ability to contrast between 40 degrees and 5 degrees Celsuis immediately via integrated steps connecting the two sides of the spa.

Research suggests that maximum health benefits are obtained when the user is able to warm back up quickly after a cold plunge.  With integrated steps on each side of the ContraSpa, the user can almost immediately immerse themselves in hot and cold temperatures without any delay.

The ContraSpa Hot and Cold Spa

The ContraSpa is the only dual-purpose single-shell luxury spa made in the UK and is fabricated using commercial grade EU sourced stainless steel for the shell and cladding. Housing both hot and cold elements in one single shell is a surprisingly efficient system which has been cleverly built to avoid any heat or cold air transferring between the two sides.

Both sides of the spa can be operated with inbuilt touch screens or over WiFi and the heat pump operates quietly at less than 50dBA.

The hot side of the ContraSpa features jets which provide massage and hydrotherapy, with all the same luxury features available in our bespoke hot tubs. The cold side is operated via a water chiller and also features jets which move the water continuously to enable a constant cold temperature.

For residential and commercial use

At only 2.2m diameter, the ContraSpa is ideal for a private residential space as well as a commercial spa. As with all SpaFlo hot tubs and spas, the ContraSpa can be installed sunken, semi-sunken or above ground, and composite decking surrounds can be added to above ground versions.

SpaFlo spas have been installed indoors and outdoors in private homes, commercial spas, rooftops and even private yachts - nothing is out of bounds so please do get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Designed for Contrast Therapy

Contrast therapy is a form of therapy where people bathe in hot water and then plunge into very cold water.  Contrast bathing is increasingly popular as a tool for injury recovery and athletic performance, as well as offering multiple health benefits for wellness enthusiasts.

When you rapidly alternate between hot water and cold-water bathing, your blood vessels open and close in a pulsing motion.  It is thought that this pulsing action can reduce inflammation and improve circulation which is beneficial for injury recovery, high blood pressure and heart rate regulation. Read more benefits of contrast bath therapy in our guide to contrast therapy.

Increasingly, contrast therapy is used for injury recovery and rehabilitation and is very popular among professional athletes and fitness experts. Contrast therapy provides a gentle tissue workout without any stress or movement on an injured body part making it perfect as a passive therapy.  Research suggests it can reduce fatigue, muscle soreness and excess lactic acid whilst also decreasing swelling and inflammation.  Read more benefits of contrast bathing for injuries in our blog post.

Contrast baths supported by science

According to this paper in the US National Library of Medicine, “the application of hot and cold water causes intermittent vasoconstriction and vasodilation that induce a vascular pumping effect, which results in increased tissue blood flow and oxygenation that improve healing, enhances tissue waste-product transportation that reduces edema, improves limb function, and promotes a quicker recovery”
